Passage: Matthew 26:14–30

Sermon:              Communion With Jesus            Matthew 26:14-30

I. The Worst Deal Ever  (14-16)

II. The Greatest Meal Ever  (17-30)

     A. Preparation for the Meal  (17-19)

WLC Q. 171. How are they that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s supper to prepare themselves before they come unto it?
     A. They that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s supper are, before they come, to prepare themselves by examining themselves of their being in Christ, of their sins and wants; of the truth and measure of their knowledge, faith, repentance; love to God and the brethren, charity to all men, forgiving those that have done them wrong; of their desires after Christ, and of their new obedience; and by renewing the exercise of these graces, by serious meditation, and fervent prayer.

     B. Jesus Foretells Judas’s Betrayal  (20-25)

     C. The Lord’s Supper (26-30)

          1. The Lord’s Supper is a Simple Meal

          2. The Lord’s Supper is a Covenant Meal

The essence of the Lord’s Supper: Jesus was judged as a covenant breaker so that we could be judged as covenant keepers.

          3. The Lord’s Supper is Communion with Christ

1 Corinthians 10:16 The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
